Adopt-A-Block Poughkeepsie, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing assistance to at-risk individuals and families within the City of Poughkeepsie. We are working in concert with service and health agencies, churches, city government, local businesses and residents to bring restoration to our city – block by block.
Our organization has worked with over 150 volunteers as we have helped address unmet needs in the community while encouraging residents to join us in our work.
We value the principle of helping people help themselves, so that they can go on to help others. It is our desire to make a positive difference in the lives of all who participate in Adopt-A-Block. Our liaisons work directly with the residents on the adopted blocks, building relationships that grow as they meet together every week throughout our three month campaign.
We began our organization in the spring of 2006 in hopes of building bridges of relationship within the City of Poughkeepsie. We have cleaned up yards, planted flowers, repaired fences, porches and siding, shampooed carpets and given out groceries & clothing to anyone in need.
We don’t do this for money or recognition but to get to know our neighbors and help make their lives a little easier. That is what being a community is all about. We all want to see the city of Poughkeepsie become a better place.
